We are so fortunate to have spent a few beautiful days on the shore of the Great Slave Lake. Great Slave Lake is the 9th largest lake in the world and we will see it from the other side when we get to Yellowknife. We arrived in the town of Hay River on Monday coming from the Twin Falls Gorge Territorial Campground which narrowly escaped the devastating fires of 2023. As we drove north along the Hay River the burned scars on the land and graveyards of the Boreal Forest lay all around us. The town of Hay River is a vibrant community that is celebrating their lake shore life — which we thoroughly enjoyed. This is truly the land of the long sunset. Pictures say more than words.

What a great adventure you are having. Hope the mosquitoes aren’t too bad.
Hi Bonnie,
We are behind on our posts, but we are sure having a good trip. We stopped by the Liard Hot Springs a couple of days ago. That was great! $5 is a deal too.
The mosquitoes haven’t been bad except for around Yellowknife. That was the first time we saw 1 million insects flying around at one time! Well, that is a small exaggeration. But it was a lot of biting bugs!
We put up a net over our bed that has made all the difference. When there are that many mosquitoes, it’s just impossible to keep them all out.
